GB FFR Market Summary – March 2018

Aurora’s Flexibility Market Summary provide a concise monthly review of recent events in key markets for flexible technologies. The initial focus is on the balancing mechanism and firm frequency response (FFR) markets with more ancillary services markets to be added over time.

Highlights of the March report include:

  1. A record total of 50 dynamic bids were accepted this March, and the volume-weighted average price of accepted bids rose to £8.76/MW/h.
  2. Almost 290MW of duration weighted dynamic volume was accepted this March, of which 56MW was battery capacity for delivery over periods as far ahead as June 2020, the rest was for delivery in April.
  3. The volume-weighted average price of accepted bids in the static market has risen slightly to £2.46/MW/h, with 35 accepted bids this month.
  4. Eight biomass bids were accepted in the static market to cover daytime, totalling 93MW of duration weighted capacity.
