GB FFR Market Summary – February 2018

Aurora’s Flexibility Market Summary provide a concise monthly review of recent events in key markets for flexible technologies. The initial focus is on the balancing mechanism and firm frequency response (FFR) markets with more ancillary services markets to be added over time.

Highlights of the February report include:

  1. The volume-weighted average price of accepted bids continues to decline in both the dynamic and static markets.
  2. Drax was successful in the dynamic market with 68MW of OCGT capacity available overnight for £6.1/MWh.
  3. Out of the three CCGT units bidding in the dynamic market, only Scottish Power’s Damhead Creek was successful, again with an all-or-nothing pair of bids.
  4. There were 18 accepted bids in the static market this month, most covering the late evening.
  5. Electricity North West submitted 4 bids in the static market (rejected for uncompetitive prices), marking the first bid for DSR by a DNO.
