Aurora’s GB wholesale market report provides a monthly summary of key characteristics in the wholesale market, ranging from overviews of fundamental system drivers to estimates of major company performance and snapshots of individual plant operation.
Highlights of the November report include:
- With fuel and carbon prices decreasing, the average power price in November decreased to £61.2/MWh, a 1% reduction from previous month’s price, however this represents a 23% increase compared to last November.
- As the winter months approach, demand in November increased by 7% and total production increased by 1.8 TWh – 1.4 TWh of which was from coal, due to coal and carbon prices falling by 8% and 1% from October.
- Total monthly gross profits rose by £99.6m compared to October, due to higher demand mitigating the downward pressure on price of reduced fuel costs, and higher utilization rates of non thermal assets.
- Well-diversified developers with wind assets saw gross profits increase by 15%, as the average wind load factors increased by 7 percentage points, while the wind capture price only fell by 2% between months.
