GB Renewables Market Summary – August 2019

Aurora is pleased to present its latest GB Renewables Market summary report.

Highlights from August include:

  • Driven by lower demand, fuel and carbon prices, the average wholesale price in August decreased to £37.1/MWh, a £3.6/MWh drop from July, and a 38% reduction from August 2018.
  • Wind capture prices fell by £5.5/MWh, to £34.4/MWh, indicating a 7.3% discount to baseload. In contrast, Solar PV capture prices stayed higher than baseload at £37.4/MWh.
  • Wind saw much higher load factors than in previous months, with 37% and 24% for offshore wind and onshore wind respectively. Daily average prices went below £35/MWh on six different days as a result.
  • Higher wind load factors led to a three-fold increase of onshore wind acceptance volumes in the BM compared to July.
