GB Renewables Market Summary – October 2019

We are pleased to present our latest GB Renewables Market summary report.

Highlights from October include:

  • Driven by higher gas prices and demand, the average power price in October rose to £36.04/MWh, a £2.2/MWh increase from September. However, the power price is still 42% lower than in October 2018
  • Wind capture prices increased along with the baseload price, by £2.5/MWh relative to September. Monthly load factors were also up by 4-7 pp compared to the previous month
  • Thanks to additional operational capacity at Beatrice and Hornsea 1, offshore wind broke its monthly generation record at 3.3 TWh, up from 3.1 TWh in March 2019, despite not achieving highest monthly load factor
  • Onshore wind acceptance volumes in the BM almost doubled to 256 GWh, up from 140 GWh in September. However, this is still a 21% decrease compared to October 2018
