We are pleased to present our latest GB wholesale power market summary report. This report combines the highlights from our previous GB system, wind, company and plant performance notes.

Highlights from June include:

  • With fuel prices and power demand starting to rise as lockdown measures are eased, the monthly average price in June finally saw a reversal in trend and rose to £25.5/MWh – a 16% increase from May
  • Monthly power demand in June increased by 3% (or 1.1 TWh) relative to May, with the share of low carbon generation decreasing to 63% of demand in June (from 74% in May)
  • The increase in power demand resulted in a 12% (or 0.5 TWh) rise in thermal generation and a consequent 40% (or 0.8 MtCO2) increase in emissions relative to May
  • Wind assets saw an increase in their profitability in June with wind capture prices increasing by 27% (or £4.3/MWh) relative to May, and load factors increasing by 2 p.p. on average
