German Plant Performance Summary – October 2017

Aurora’s power plant performance summary provides a monthly snapshot of financial and operating performance for individual plants on the German electricity grid. We collate, clean, and process the data so that it is readily digestible and error-free.

Highlights of our October report include:

  1. Compared to September 2017, the average Phelix power price fell by 6 EUR/MWh (-18%) to its lowest level since August 2016, thereby lowering capture prices across all technologies other than hard coal
  2. Lower prices resulted mainly from increased RES generation, with autumn storms leading to peak wind output of nearly 40GW and negative prices for 38h throughout the month
  3. Hard coal took the greatest hit from low prices and saw year-on-year utilization rates down by 32%. The average hard coal capture price increased due to low running hours
