Aurora Ireland Renewables Add-On July 2019

Aurora’s H1 2019 I-SEM Renewables Add-On, building on our Ireland I-SEM Forecast released in April. This report presents a deep dive into renewable generation in I-SEM, encompassing policy and regulation updates, market and technology overviews, RESS forecasts, investment case models and sensitivity analyses.

The analysis draws upon our internal modelling capabilities, and much of the content has been developed through a detailed consultation process across private and public sector players.

Key messages from the report include:

  • In-depth analysis of existing renewables policies and their interaction with the new I-SEM market arrangements
  • Capture prices for onshore wind and offshore wind drop below baseload by 13% by 2030, whilst solar capture prices fall only slightly below baseload by 1%
  • Imbalance costs for wind rise from €2.2 to €2.9/MWh as renewable penetration increases
  • Pairing with a battery allows solar to double its total annual market revenues to over €100/kW/year
