GB Wholesale Market Summary – October 2019

We are pleased to present Aurora’s latest GB Wholesale Power Market Summary report. This report combines the highlights from our previous GB System, Wind and Plant performance notes.
Highlights from our October 2019 report include:
- Driven by higher gas prices and demand, the average power price in October rose to £36.04/MWh, a £2.24/MWh increase from September. However, the power price is still 42% lower than October 2018
- Colder weather in October saw demand increase by 18% compared to September, leading to a rise in monthly thermal generation of 2.4 TWh. Consequently, this caused emissions to rise by 34%
- Driven by an 11 p.p. increase in monthly wind load factors, and a £2.5/MWh increase in wind capture prices relative to September, gross profits for wind assets rose by 29% in October
- Total monthly gross profits across the entire merit order rose by £159.5m compared to September, due to an increase in demand and higher utilisation rates of non thermal assets
